Sophie Gallagher is an English Soprano, based in Florence, Italy.

Sophie recently graduated from The Royal College of Music, studying with Dinah Harris, David Rendall and Caroline Dowdle. In Italy she continues to study with Cristiano Manzoni and Daniela Pellegrino.

Sophie made her international debut as 'Emmie' in Albert Herring for Firenze Maggio Musicale in May 2016 (Teatro Pergola) and for Opéra de Lausanne as 'First Witch' for The English Concert and Harry Bickett's production of Dido and Aeneas. She revived the role of ‘Emmie’ for Buxton Opera and covered 'Giannetta' in New Generation Festival (Firenze) for a production of 'Elisir d'Amore', ‘Oberto' in Alcina for Ryedale Opera, 'Suor Genevieffa' cover and 'Novizia' for The Estates Theatre Prague and 'Atalanta' in Xerses. 

2018 included debuts as ‘Euridice’ for Gluck’s Orfeo, Pamina for
‘Die Zauberflöte’ and ‘Fiordiligi’ in Così fan tutte for New Generation Festival Firenze and Mülheim Theatre Switzerland. In June 2018 she covered 'Susanna' in Le Nozze di Figaro for Nevill Holt Opera with the opening of their new opera house.‚Äč

She is a former head chorister of Salisbury Cathedral and Wells Cathedral (Specialist Singer on the Dfes scheme) and a Josephine Baker Trust award holder.

Recital and solo work includes Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate (Dorset Chamber Orchestra), Haydn's The Creation, Handel’s Messiah (Bristol Old Vic, National Portrait Gallery), Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Mozart's C Minor Mass, recitals further afield in Milan (Palazzo Serbelloni), Hong Kong (The Peninsula, The Foreign Correspondents Club, Academy of Performing Arts),Chilcott’s Requiem at last year’s
Three Choirs Festival in Hereford, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle at Poole Lighthouse, Schutz' Christmas Oratorio at St John's Smith Square London and two solo recitals at the Queen's Gallery Buckingham Palace. 

Sophie's engagements for 2019 include Mozart Requiem staged by Romeo Castellucci/conducted by Raphael Pichon for Festival d'Aix en Provence and Berlioz' 'Benvenuto Cellini' with Sir John Eliot Gardiner at BBC Proms, La Cote St Andre, Opera Royal Versailles and Berlin Festpieler. In the Autumn Sophie will sing ‘Elle’ for a new production of Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine, directed by Edoardo Zucchetti.
